should we clean the ear canal of children ?

(posted from mobile phone with the help of blogger for android phone-Tamil font not available.sorry for this English post)

No. Ear canal should not be cleaned frequently with hard objects such as earbuds ,sticks etc.

ear canal has two parts outer and inner. Outer part contain ceruminous gland from which wax like material is being secreted. Cerumen or wax will be there in the ear canal which protects the ear.
We should not remove the wax.if we use earbuds to remove this you will push it further inside and it will damage the delicate inner structures in the ear canal.

How to remove the wax?
no need to remove the wax.if it is causing discomfort and pain you can instill either clean coconut oil or wax dissolving drops available from drug stores.

The moral of the story=) never ever use a ear buds in budding children

  6. Dear Doctor

The information in the blog are interesting and useful for first time mothers like me. I would request you to write an article on tongue tie in your future edition. My child who is 10 mths old weighing 11.5 kgs has a tongue tie and has been showing disinterest in solid foods since 6 mths. I would like to know if tongue tie will result in chewing and swallowing difficulties. She is however uttering words like amma, appa, papa , thatha and umma etc. Kindly clarify. Also should this be operated to avoid any future troubles.
    Thanks

  8. Sir, commercially available ceruminolytics like waxonil are not effective in dissolving wax. many articles like this http://geriatri.dergisi.org/pdf/pdf_TJG_243.pdf say that hydrogen peroxide is a good ceruminolytic. Any idea whether it can be used in paediatric age group.
